ICVM Group Continues Support of Women in STEM with Second Annual College Scholarship

Mattituck, NY — ICVM Group, a brand strategy, web design and digital marketing agency serving both local and national clients since 1996, recently awarded a scholarship to an outstanding young woman in the pursuit of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) career. Stephan Roussan, ICVM Group’s Founder and President, presented the second annual ICVM Group Women in Technology Scholarship Award to Mattituck High School graduating senior Wylee Sanders.

Ms. Sanders will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) this fall, majoring in Biomedical Science. Ms. Sanders concludes a highly-accomplished high school career that includes serving as co-President of Mattituck High School’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society; President of the Concert Band; is a member of the National Honor Society; was nominated for the RIT Innovation and Creativity Award; and volunteered with both the local fire department and library.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that only 15.9% of practicing engineers are women; only 25.6% of  those in the field of mathematics are women; and across all technology jobs, only 17% are held by women.

“Our modern world revolves around the development and use of technology,” said Roussan. “When men dominate technology, they dictate which problems and priorities in our society are addressed through technology and which are not -- always doing so from a uniquely male perspective. This is unacceptable, and we must press for change on all fronts.”

ICVM Group asked the Mattituck High School faculty to recommend a student who has shown special aptitude and achievement in STEM, and who intends to pursue college studies in technology-oriented disciplines.

 “We congratulate Ms. Sanders for her achievements and hope that recognizing her career path in this fashion will inspire many more young women to follow in her footsteps,” said Roussan.
